Petplan to offer supporters, family and friends a 10%* discount as the Foundation’s exclusive pet insurance provider

Newtown Square, PA (Tuesday, November 1) – After a lifetime of sniffing bombs and snuffing bad guys, retired K9 police get to be ordinary dogs—which means they have a knack for racking up vet bills. To help give wet-nosed veterans access to the best vet care, the National Police Dog Foundation announced on Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Petplan[1] to be its exclusive pet insurance provider.

The relationship has two goals: to provide for retired police dogs’ health needs and to encourage pet insurance when active duty dogs begin service. It also kicks off the Foundation’s Veterinary Care and Pet Insurance Fund, which will help pay pet insurance premiums for police dogs upon retirement.

Veterinary treatment for everything from hereditary disease to on-the-job injuries can run in the thousands, but Petplan reimburses up to 90% of the bills. And because Petplan offers a fully customizable policy, each plan can be tailor-made for the individual police dog it protects.

“K9 officers provide protection, loyalty and unwavering support—and we think they deserve the same in turn,” says Chris Ashton, co-founder and co-CEO of Petplan. “As a former Captain in the British Royal Marines, I know the hard work it takes to live a life of service. For a dog to fulfill that duty is truly exceptional. The least we can do for these retired heroes is to help preserve their quality of life in their golden years.”

Petplan is offering a 10% discount to Foundation members, fans and friends who enroll online using the promo code NDPF10. For each policy booked, Petplan will make a donation to the Veterinary Care and Pet Insurance Fund. Visit https://nationalpolicedogfoundation.org/petplan/[2] for more information.

“Pet insurance provides peace of mind that our retired veterans will always get the best care, regardless of cost,” says Jim Reilly, NPDF President. “We set up this fund with Petplan to offset the expense of pet insurance premiums for the dog’s handlers. Our hope is that by making sure their health is taken care of, our dogs can go on to live full and happy lives when their days of service are done.”
